Will AI kill Data Science Jobs?
Written by guest blogger Michael Baron, Lead Facilitator of our Data Science Program
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been developing at a very fast pace. Every now and then, we hear concerned voices saying that it will take over many jobs. As far as Data Science jobs are concerned, there have already been some examples of entire Data Science teams being replaced with AI-driven tools.
Automation is getting better and better. Automated tools can now perform a wide range of tasks, including:
- image and pattern recognition
- natural language processing (NLP)
- data preparation and cleaning.
AI tools can now also perform the more advanced task of running fully flexible predictive analytics platforms. These are the jobs that have traditionally been performed by Data Scientists. So, does this mean that it is no longer a good decision to opt for a career in Data Science?
Far from it! On the contrary, the rise of AI has been creating more jobs for Data Scientists. There are many new and exciting specialised jobs within the Data Science field that can now be considered by Data Science graduates.
Firstly, behind every single AI initiative or development, there is a human touch. Graduates can consider jobs that include:
- Machine Learning Engineer
- Deep Learning Engineer
- Data Engineers.
Even where unsupervised machine learning methods are being deployed, experienced Data Scientists will work behind the scenes to support technology revolution.
Furthermore, the brave new world of AI poses brand new challenges and there is a growing demand for professionals who can address these challenges successfully. There is an ever-growing demand for Data Privacy Analysts, AI Deployment and Training Consultants, AI Ethicists and AI Project Managers.
These roles are just the tip of the AI-driven Data Science iceberg and highlight the diverse and growing landscape of AI data careers to be considered in the near future. As time goes by, more and more new AI roles and specialisations continue to emerge.
If you want to be part of this exciting technology revolution, consider a career in Data Science. The Graduate Certificate in Data Science can be completed online in 8 months only, so in less than a year, you could be a Data Scientist and ride the wave of the AI – rather than fear it.
